En aquest llibre s’introdueixen els conceptes relacionats amb l’estructura bàsica d’un computador, és a dir, quins blocs funcionals el constitueixen, la seva interconnexió i com es governa el seu funcionament. Tots aquests conceptes s’introdueixen amb l’exemple de la Màquina Senzilla, un processador (CPU) simple capaç d’executar només quatre instruccions bàsiques. Amb aquest repertori ja es poden implementar petits programes que la màquina senzilla serà capaç d’executar amb èxit. En aquest llibre es presenta, doncs, el disseny i la implementació d’aquesta senzilla CPU. A continuació es presenta també les bases pel desenvolupament d’arquitectures de CPU més complexes a partir de senzilles modificacions de la Màquina Senzilla. El llibre és fruit de l’experiència docent dels professors que hem impartit l’assignatura d’Estructura i Tecnologia de Computadors II al llarg dels últims cursos acadèmics.
