Description
Pere Coromines was an eminently polyhedral character: he actively participated in social movements, held highly prominent political and institutional positions, wrote literature, was a fief economist, lawyer, cultural manager, etc. The success that he obtained in all the enterprises in which he took part, the fortune of his decisions and actions, the worth of his thinking or writing; all this can be discussed. But what is undeniable is that, above all, he was a public figure who exercised power without ever abandoning his cultural concerns and, at the same time, a versatile intellectual who never forgot the importance of the «res publica» for culture. A character, moreover, difficult to pigeonhole here or there. In the words of Jordi Casassas: «We can include Corominas in the small group of historical Catalan personalities who enjoyed a special magnetism, a personal charisma that went beyond the boundaries of class, a group, a current or a specific movement».
