"Lectura de «Al este del Edén» des de la perspectiva de René Girard i de la història dels efectes del text bíblic" is an interpretation of the novel by Nobel Prize of Literature John Steinbeck (California 1902 - New York 1968). Based on the hermeneutics of the historian and literary critic René Girard (Avignon 1923) and the basic concepts of mimetic desire, scapegoat and revelation, this study analyzes the Steinbeck novel that shows how this classic American lost generation update known passage from the death of Abel in Genesis. Faithfulness to the original message in this work can help us to reread it so that "powerful word" of Gen 4.7 "resonate" in us again transfigured by the "effects of the biblical text" in history culture: "If it works, you will be accepted; But if it works, sin lurks at the door: he will want, but you have the master.
