Description
The centenary of the publication of the doctoral thesis of Walter Benjamin The concept of art criticism in German Romanticism will be celebrated next year 2020. In this early work, there are already numerous fundamental reasons for Benjamin's thinking, which will be decisive for the further development of his work and, at the same time, subject to a permanent process of revision and transformation. The reflection on the concept of criticism is probably the most notable example of the survival of an issue that occupies Benjamin since the beginning of his intellectual career, since it not only articulates the fundamental presuppositions of his epistemology, but also the determining features of a thought about art after classical aesthetics.
The works presented in this volume come from authors who share common interests, both in the field of research around classical German philosophy and in studies on Benjamin's thinking, and intend, from different perspectives, to contribute to the understanding of Benjamin's doctoral thesis, a work whose inaugural character seems unquestionable to us today. With the works gathered here, the second volume of the "Constel·lacions" collection, an initiative of the Walter Benjamin Chair, Memòria i Exili, which, together with the publication of the winning essays of the Walter Benjamin Memorial International Prize, comes to light convened by the same Càtedra, its main objective is to offer researchers a dissemination body so that they can publicize the results of their studies, either on Benjamin's work, or on its subsequent reception.
